Long-time Peninsula Panther trainer and beloved skate sharpener Larry Orr has died after a short but courageous battle with cancer.

He was 73.

Orr operated a homemade hockey shop on the Peninsula, serving hundreds of minor hockey league players in the area, including Jamie and Jordie Benn.

Earlier this month, Orr received a standing ovation prior to dropping the puck at the September 21st Hockeyville game between the Vancouver Canucks and San Jose Sharks.

This past Friday, the BC Hockey Hall of Fame handed Orr the prestigious Dunc Jameison award for all of his volunteer work.

A public service is being planned and a date and location will be released in the coming days.
