An RV went up in flames in a Nanaimo driveway Wednesday as a man performed electrical work on the vehicle, according to fire officials.

Firefighters were called to Victoria Avenue and made quick work of the blaze, according to Nanaimo Fire Capt. Bryun Ashlie.

He said a man was hooking up an electrical fuel pump with a friend when a spark ignited fuel and caused the older-model RV to burst into flame.

No one was injured and the nearby home did not suffer any damage, Ashlie said.

The home was evacuated out of precaution, with firefighters taking three people inside out to the backyard.

The blaze produced a plume of black smoke that could be seen around the area.

The vehicle was completely gutted by flames.
