A memorial honouring the tens of thousands of Canadians who served in the mission in Afghanistan is being unveiled in Victoria this week.

The granite monument will be set up on the Victoria Courthouse lawn, across the street from Christ Church Cathedral.

The installation will get underway Tuesday with a public dedication ceremony that will follow on Saturday.

The project honours the men and women who served, as well as all of their families.

"It's just amazing the work and the dedication that everyone has put into it," said Richard Nuttall, whose son Lt. Andrew Nuttall was slain on duty. "It's been very reassuring and heartening and it makes me feel proud."

More than 150 soldiers who served on the mission were killed, and several of them have ties to Vancouver Island.
