Nanaimo RCMP are appealing to the public to help catch a knife-wielding, wig-sporting robber.

Mounties have released images of a suspect accused in the armed robberies of two different convenience stores in mid-August.

The first took place at a 7-11 store on Terminal Avenue at around 2:40 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 13.

A man wearing a wig and holding a large knife entered the store and demanded the clerk to give him cash before fleeing, according to police.

Nearly 20 hours later, a suspect wearing a wig once again held up a store – this time an Esso gas station on Northfield Road – brandishing a knife and demanding cash before he took off, said police.

Officials believe the same man is behind both robberies.

In the first incident, the suspect wore a red Hurley T-shit, baggy grey sweatpants and grey and black shoes with white laces.

In the second, he wore a dark coloured ball cap, a light grey hoodie and dark pants.

Anyone with information is asked to call Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
