A View Royal family is homeless after a fire broke out in their home.

Fire crews were called to the home in the 200-block of Suzanne Place Tuesday evening.

“The one room is gutted. The rest of the house is damaged by heat and smoke,” View Royal Fire Chief Paul Hurst told CTV News.

One person was home at the time and managed to get out. He was taken to hospital for smoke inahalation.

“One person transported by BC ambulance and paramedics, his condition is unknown. He was initially treated on scene and then taken to hospital,” Hurst added.

Three people live in the home along with two pets – both of which made it out safely.

Emergency social services are working to find accommodations for the family.

Damage is estimated at about $200,000.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, but officials say it’s not considered suspicious.
