RCMP are investigating after a 52-year-old man was assaulted with a baseball bat during an altercation at a home in Nanaimo on Tuesday.

Police say the incident occurred shortly before 9 p.m. at a home on Barclay Road.

According to officials, when officers arrived at the home they found the man bleeding from an apparent head injury. He was taken to a local hospital and released Wednesday morning after receiving several stitches.

A 58-year-old man was arrested at the scene for assault causing bodily harm and held in custody overnight. The man was released on Wednesday morning on a promise to appear. He is scheduled to make his first court appearance on October 18.

Investigators were given permission to enter the home on Wednesday and seized various items for forensic evaluation, including the baseball bat believed to have been used in the assault.
