Victoria police have arrested a man accused of assaulting a bus driver because he wasn’t allowed to exit at a decommissioned stop.

The route 4 bus was travelling southbound along Douglas Street near Kings Road at around 1:30 p.m. Friday when the man allegedly attacked the driver because he wouldn't stop, according to police.

The driver reportedly managed to pull over to the side of the road at the corner of Douglas and Bay streets where the assault continued, police said.

The assailant fled but was later arrested about a block away.

The bus driver was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police said multiple passengers on the bus called 911 to report the incident.

They're still looking for witnesses, and anyone with information on the incident is asked to call police at 250-995-7654.
