The West Shore’s first medical marijuana dispensary was shut down on Tuesday, just one day after it went into business.

Green Tree Medical Dispensary opened its doors in Langford on Monday.

Langford’s mayor said the city first heard about the pop-up pot shop on Granderson Road the day it opened.

“No business license, no application, it was a surprise to us to see it there,” Stew Young told CTV News.

West Shore RCMP raided the dispensary on Tuesday. During the search officers seized an undisclosed amount of marijuana.

“Investigators conducted a compliance check at the storefront and observed evidence of possible offences under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and took enforcement actions accordingly,” the detachment said in a statement.

No charges had been laid as of Tuesday afternoon.

Langford’s mayor said the dispensary also violated city by-laws that stipulate pot can only be sold in pharmacies.

“This is not a grey area, this is cut and dried and clear,” Young said. “You have to have the regulations in place in order to dispense marijuana.”

The mayor noted he’ll stand firm on the decision, but added that the federal government needs to act fast.

“They better have their job done and they better explain how they’re going to do it because I knew this was coming,” Young said. “I don’t believe they’re going to solve this problem in the next two to three years. There’s just too many holes in it.”
