A serious crash near Port Alberni sent four people to hospital and shut down Highway 4 in both directions for a short time Thursday.

The highway was shut down near Sproat Lake about 20 kilometres west of Port Alberni following a reported crash between a pickup and a flatbed truck.

Witnesses told CTV News the smaller truck T-boned the flatbed in a construction zone.

Port Alberni RCMP responded and confirmed no one died in the crash.

The BC Ambulance Service said paramedics transported four patients to hospital.

DriveBC confirmed the highway had reopened at around 3:10 p.m. and said motorists could expect delays of up to 30 minutes in the area.
