The Saanich Pound is looking to speak to anyone who witnessed two dogs viciously attacking a deer on Tuesday.

It happened in the 4300-block of Gordon Head Road around 1:30 p.m.

The pound received information about two large “Samoyed-looking” dogs chasing down a deer and attacking it.

When inspectors arrived on scene, they found a young buck badly hurt.

According to police, the deer’s injuries were so severe that it had to be put down.

A search was conducted, but inspectors were unable to track down the two dogs.

“Dogs are pack animals, however attacks like this are extremely rare,” pound inspector Sue Ryan said. “This is the only report we’ve received of these dogs and we would like to speak to the owner about control and containment.”

The pound is requesting that anyone who may have seen the attack or if they know who the owner of the dogs is to contact them at (250) 475-4321.
