The first court date for Kenneth Jacob Fenton, the man accused of drunk driving causing the death of a West Shore Mountie, has been pushed back by a month.

Fenton faces charges of impaired driving causing death, dangerous driving causing death and flight from police causing death in an April 5 crash that killed Const. Sarah Beckett.

He was originally slated to make his first court appearance at the end of September, but that was pushed to Oct. 27 for undisclosed reasons.

CTV News has learned the Oct. 27 court date has been adjourned to Nov. 24 so Fenton’s defense council can review Crown’s case for prosecution.

He’ll appear at 9 a.m. in Colwood provincial court on Nov. 24.

The charges were announced last month following a months-long investigation into the crash.

Beckett, 32, was killed when her police cruiser was struck in the intersection of Peatt Road and Goldstream Avenue.

Fenton was taken into custody at the scene, but he was released the next day.

He was again taken into custody after charges were laid in September, but released that night on a promise to appear in court under conditions including no alcohol or drugs.

He must also report to a bail supervisor, remain in B.C. and surrender his passport.
