BC Transit’s CEO has been banned from coaching his youth soccer team for a year after he made physical contact with a teen referee during a game.

Weeks ago, Manuel Achadinha reportedly approached the 16-year-old referee and demonstrated what he thought should have been called a foul, making contact with the teen.

He was then asked to leave the game, Vince Greco, president of the Vancouver Island Soccer League, told CFAX 1070.

Greco said a disciplinary committee didn’t believe Achadinha intended to assault the referee and that it was likely just a mistake.

Achadinha is now suspended from coaching and cannot attend any league games for a year.
