BC Ferries says it's installed an additional 24 automated external defibrillators at minor terminals that it says can save lives.

It says the devices are easy for anyone to use and will increase the possibility that a customer or employee who suffers medical distress such as a heart attack at a remote location receives treatment quickly.

The corporation says it's been working with the Heart and Stroke Foundation over the past year to improve access to the devices for the public.

BC Ferries says the devices are now located at 34 of its 47 terminal locations, and another three will be added after the construction of waiting rooms is complete at the Denman Island East, Denman Island West and Hornby Island terminals.
