Yellow wind warning issued for southwestern Manitoba

Environment and Climate Change Canada is warning communities in southwestern Manitoba of strong winds.

At 4:22 p.m. on Sunday, the climate agency issued a yellow wind warning, stating that severe winds that can cause damage are expected.

“A line of very fast-moving showers and thundershowers has formed (Sunday) afternoon over southeastern Saskatchewan and southwestern Manitoba,” the warning read. “Strong to severe wind gusts will be possible in the vicinity of these passing showers.”

The wind gusts can reach above 90 km/h in showers on Sunday afternoon, the warning added.

ECCC said the line will move out of the area late Sunday afternoon.

The weather agency said damage to roofs, fences, branches or soft shelters is possible, advising residents to secure loose objects and be ready for utilities, transportation and services disruptions.
