An emergency demolition was ordered for a building in Winnipeg’s Dufferin neighbourhood after it caught fire. Fire crews were sent to a commercial building in the 700 block of Dufferin Avenue at 4:26 a.m. Saturday after reports of a fire. Responders found heavy black smoke and flames coming from the building and launched a defensive attack due to unsafe conditions inside the building. Firefighters sprayed water from the outside using aerial ladders, the city said. The fire was brought under control at 6:55 a.m. Due to a collapse risk, firefighters ordered an emergency demolition of the building. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
