Two Winnipeg police officers are expected to make full recoveries after being lunged at with a knife. Police were called shortly after 5 p.m. Wednesday to the 1-99 block of Bonaventure Drive in Winnipeg’s Island Lakes neighbourhood for a domestic incident. They were called about a man acting erratically, the Winnipeg Police Service said in a media release Thursday. “Arriving officers located the involved woman outside and confirmed her wellbeing before entering the residence,” the release said. When officers went to the basement, they found a man and began speaking to him. Police said that’s when the suspect pulled out a folding knife and lunged. Police then grabbed the man and used a conductive energy weapon. Police said the man dropped the knife and was placed into custody. Both responding officers were then sent to hospital with serious injuries. “They have been medically cleared and are expected to make full recoveries.” The service said paramedics on scene cared for the suspect’s minor injuries and medically cleared him. A 30-year-old man was placed in custody. He is charged with two counts of assault a peace officer with a weapon. The charges have not been tested in court.
