The Manitoba RCMP believe that someone intentionally tried to set a Niverville coffee shop on fire over the weekend. The investigating began around 4:15 a.m. on Saturday when officers responded to an alarm at a business on Drovers Run. When Mounties got to the scene, they discovered damage to the front of the building and a strong smell of fuel. “Officers believe that someone deliberately attempted to set the building on fire,” RCMP said in a statement. Police ask anyone with surveillance video of the area or information about the incident to call the St. Pierre-Jolys detachment at 204-433-7908 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477. In a statement on social media, Negash Coffee said the shop was recently damaged in a “frightening” incident. The statement goes on to say that they don’t know what led to the incident or why it happened. “We ask that you please avoid filling in the gaps with rumours or speculation,” it said. “It’s a difficult time for our family, our team, and our community, and unverified stories can cause real hurt.” Negash Coffee confirmed that no one was hurt in the incident, adding that they are grateful for the staff members who came in the next day and helped keep things going. The coffee shop remains open and fully operational. Police continue to investigate. CTV News has reached out to Negash Coffee for more information.
