After a cloudy, cool and windy start to the day, brighter skies are on the way on Tuesday afternoon in Winnipeg and southeastern Manitoba. Tuesday’s conditions across the south are thanks to a low pressure system that passed over the province on Monday. It produced an overnight thunderstorm in Winnipeg. Brandon, Dauphin and the southwest have already been basking in the sunshine Tuesday morning, with temperatures climbing to 20 C in the Wheat City by noon. As the sky continues to clear, sunshine will return to the southeast in the afternoon, with daytime highs in the mid to upper teens in Winnipeg and the surrounding areas. The departed low is also whipping up strong and gusty north and northwest winds in its wake across the south. Winds will diminish significantly by late evening. Meanwhile, it will be a soggy and blustery Tuesday afternoon in northwestern Ontario in showers and rain, strong northwest winds, and cool highs between 9 C and 11 C. Northwestern Manitoba will enjoy a mix of sun and cloud on Tuesday, while north-central areas will remain cloudy. Showers are likely in the northeast. Daytime highs will reach the mid to upper teens in central areas, while the northernmost regions will be held to single-digit temperatures. As the sky clears across most of Manitoba on Tuesday night, overnight fog is possible. Wednesday will be the nicest day of the week, with sunshine across most of Manitoba and northwestern Ontario. Temperatures in Winnipeg, Brandon and the rest of the south will soar to the low to mid-20s. Then as the May long weekend approaches, so does the chance of showers beginning Thursday. The entire long weekend won’t be a wash, but the possibility of showers will be in the mix for much of it. Unseasonably cool temperatures will be too.
