Windsor multi-platinum band ‘The Tea Party’ receives keys to the city

Thirty-five years after getting their start in Windsor-Essex, The Tea Party has been given the keys to the city.

Thirty-five years after getting their start in Windsor-Essex, The Tea Party has picked up one more honour to add to their trophy case — keys to the City of Windsor.

Windsor officially honoured the hometown band Friday during a special ceremony at Rocket Innovation Studio, the former Coach & Horses venue, where the group first built its following.

The group formed in 1990 consisting of Jeff Martin, Jeff Burrows, and Stuart Chatwood has sold nearly three million albums worldwide, earning multiple platinum and gold records, and taking its music to audiences across the globe.

Chatwood is happy to be in the city with the band and acknowledged the honour for the entire group.

“We’re Windsor boys at heart and just traveling the world representing Windsor as The Tea Party,” said Chatwood. “It’s just great to come home and know the city has our back and just recognize this. It’s just a really warm feeling inside for us, I think.”

After selling out venues across Canada and performing with a 50-piece orchestra at the Sydney Opera House, the band is humbled and happy to be recognized where it all began.
