The Downtown Mission of Windsor is trying to connect job hunters with employers. This Thursday, the Downtown Mission will host a specialized job fair at its site at 875 Ouellette Avenue. While the general public is welcome, there is a focus on graduates from the mission’s Enterprise Job Readiness Program. The Enterprise Job Readiness Program is an initiative designed to equip participants with essential life skills, job training, and practical work experience to achieve long-term financial independence and career success. Participants are provided 5 weeks of training. Three weeks of classroom instruction and two weeks of paid on-the-job training within the Downtown Mission’s various departments. Executive Director Rukshini Pooniah-Goulin says there will be employers on hand. “We have a grocery store; we have a couple of social service agencies close to the downtown area,” she says. “We have a couple of employment agencies that obviously bring different employment resources as well. They would know more employers that are currently looking for applicants.” Pooniah-Goulin says the main purpose of the event is to connect with graduates of the mission’s enterprise program. “Making sure they have a job, got a job, or still have a job after they graduated, or even giving them the opportunity to look for a better job beyond what they have currently. We also wanted to include and offer it up to our public as well,” she says. The job fair will take place from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the third-floor meeting room at the mission. Job seekers are encouraged to dress professionally and bring multiple copies of their updated resume.
