Man answering online ad for sex robbed at gunpoint in Sherwood Park: RCMP

A Sherwood Park man is facing multiple charges after allegedly robbing a man who responded to an ad for sexual services in the Clover Bar Road area.

When the victim entered the apartment near Jubilee/Aspen Trail on Aug. 14, the man took out a gun and demanded money, RCMP said in a Tuesday media release.

The 36-year-old Sherwood Park resident was arrested on Wednesday after RCMP searched the apartment complex. He was charged with:

• extortion with a firearm;
• possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose;
• using a firearm in the commission of an offence;
• unauthorized possession of a firearm;
• failure to comply with a release order condition; and
• pointing a firearm.

A 43-year-old woman, also a Sherwood Park resident, was in the apartment when it was searched and RCMP said charges are pending against her in connection with the robbery.

Mounties believe other people may have been victimized. They are asking anyone who experienced something similar to contact the Strathcona County RCMP at 780-467-7741.
