Crimes against people rise slightly, other criminal code violations surge. Here’s why.

Most reported crime in Windsor and Amherstburg in April 2026 was similar to the same period last year, except for Other Criminal Code violations, but police say there’s a reason for that.

Crimes against people rose slightly by 1.2 per cent, with increases in forcible confinement and sexual offences.

Property crimes decreased by 4.2 per cent, with fewer reports of theft and mischief.

Other Criminal Code violations increased by 23.4 pre cent, driven in part by more bail violations and counterfeit currency cases.

Police say these numbers are based on reported incidents and help them track trends and respond where needed. Reporting crime helps them better understand what’s happening in the community and how to address it.
