If you’re hooked on weather like I am, this is the app for you.

You can now tap into the School Based Weather Network with the new Island Weather app, developed for iPhone and iPad! More than 150 schools on Vancouver Island have been fitted with weather sensors collecting everything from rainfall amounts to temperature to wind speed. Use the map or scroll the list to find your neighbourhood school and you will get all the real-time weather data you could ever want, including the measured insolation!

If you don’t download the app, that’s ok. I use the weather sensor data nightly on CTV News at 5, 6 and 11 so you can still get your fix. The network is a fantastic resource, and the hard work of Andrew Weaver and Ed Wiebe at UVic who originally began the project to study the varied local weather of our island in the Pacific.

The only thing better than being able to geek-out on weather data with the swipe of a screen, is the fact that the app is FREE! Spread the word. I will :)
