At the risk of sounding repetitive, we’ve broken temperature records again on Vancouver Island. Woo hoo! Temperatures soared into the high 20’s through Victoria, Nanaimo, Campbell River and Port Alberni by 3pm this afternoon.

I’m a big fan of the warm (ok, hot) weather. I can’t get enough of it. When the weather is this good, all I want to do is email pictures of our favourite sunny spots to my relatives overseas. Cheeky, I know! This one is going to my dear cousin Lesley in Edinburgh :) The only thing missing from this photo of Cordova Bay beach is “wish you were here” written in the sand!

Cordova Bay beach is my favourite beach in the city, and on Sunday morning it was scorching! So was the rest of Vancouver Island, though, as a high pressure ridge built, breaking temperatures records for a second day in a row. Here are your hot weekend statistics:

That’s a long list of records smashed, some more than 50 years old! The last time Victoria had a four day stretch in early May of temperatures in the low to mid 20’s was in 1987! Seasonal averages put us at about 16°C if we’re lucky.

We’re in for a slight cooling trend this week which means it’s unlikely we’ll break temperature records again, but it won’t be cold by any means. I wonder if this taste of summer is more than just a taste… Do you think the warm weather is here to stay?
