‘Muscular and rotund’ suspect sought after violent home invasion: Coquitlam RCMP

Coquitlam RCMP released this phot of a man they say is a suspect in a violent home invasion on May 22, 2026.

Mounties in Coquitlam are appealing for information after a senior was allegedly assaulted and forcibly confined by a man wearing “police-related clothing” during a home invasion last Friday.

The victim told police he was asleep in his residence in the 2700 block of Nadina Drive when he was attacked by a stranger who had broken in, a statement from the Coquitlam RCMP said.

“The suspect then allegedly stole the victim’s cellphone, credit cards and vehicle,” Mounties said.

“Once the victim was able to free himself, he reported the incident to police.”

At the time of the alleged home invasion, the suspect was wearing a black hat emblazoned with RCMP and bearing the force’s logo. He was also wearing a lanyard “with an emblem or badge,” the statement from the detachment said.

“We are alerting the public to this incident as the suspect was allegedly wearing items that identified him as a police officer,” Coquitlam RCMP spokesperson Sgt. Adriana O’Malley said, in the statement.

“While this individual was not a police officer, the use of police-related clothing is troubling. We urge residents to remain vigilant and report and suspicious activity immediately.”

A neighbour also told police a man matching the suspect’s description had been asking about the home that was broken into on the day the alleged home invasion occurred.

Police released a photo of a man they say is the suspect. They described him as “muscular and rotund,” standing around 5’10” tall and weighing approximately 250 pounds.

Authorities are asking for people to be on the lookout for the victim’s car, a green 2022 Hyundai Kona with the B.C. licence plate AWE 311.

Anyone who sees the vehicle should call 911 immediately, police said.
