Vancouver police say a 30-year-old man has been convicted after a knife attack in the Downtown Eastside that injured an officer in March of 2025. Police say Solaris Onatta Running Dey was convicted of aggravated assault of an officer and assaulting a peace officer on Wednesday. The attack happened on March 4, 2025, near Main and Hastings streets, when the officer was patrolling the area with his partner. Police say in a statement that the officer was then approached from behind by an attacker, who slashed one officer in the back of the leg. The attacker fled but was arrested by police a block away from the scene. The officer who was attacked had to receive emergency first aid before being hospitalized, treated and released.
