Police in Abbotsford are investigating a single-vehicle crash that left a dramatic-looking scene outside a local A&W restaurant Wednesday morning. The incident occurred on Sumas Way between Marshall Road and South Fraser Way, the Abbotsford Police Department said in a social media post around 8:30 a.m. An image with the post shows a white Dodge pickup truck with a cap over its bed lodged atop a retaining wall beneath the restaurant’s drive-thru sign. Signage for a nearby hotel can be seen on the ground next to the crash scene, and police tape has been set up to block the driveway. “Preliminary information indicates that a truck left the roadway, struck a light standard, and came to rest on a retaining wall,” the post reads. “The driver has been transported to hospital.” Police said Sumas Way was reduced to a single lane northbound and advised drivers to expect “significant delays and heavy congestion in the area.” Where possible, motorists should seek alternate routes, police said, adding that their investigation is ongoing.
