Crash injures 2, closes Hastings Street in Burnaby, RCMP say

Two pedestrians were taken to hospital—one of them in critical condition—after a serious collision on Hastings Street in Burnaby Saturday afternoon.

The incident occurred around 12:45 p.m. just east of Delta Avenue, according to a statement from Burnaby RCMP.

“Both pedestrians have been transported to the hospital with unknown injuries,” the statement reads. “The driver has remained on scene.”

B.C. Emergency Health Services told CTV News it was called to the scene for “a motor vehicle incident involving an e-scooter.”

The agency dispatched four ambulances with primary care paramedics and two with advanced care paramedics, and two patients were taken to hospital, one in critical condition and one in serious condition.

The crash closed Hastings Street in both directions between Delta and Springer avenues, and Mounties said the road would likely remain closed for several more hours into the evening.

The Burnaby RCMP Criminal Collision Investigation Team has taken over the investigation.

TransLink re-routed its Hastings Street buses—including the R5, 160 and 129 routes—via Willingdon and Holdom avenues and Parker Street due to the closure.
