A sports car has been impounded for excessive speeding on a winding road in West Vancouver, according to local police. The Chevrolet Corvette was clocked at 160 km/h on Cypress Bowl Road Thursday night, the West Vancouver Police Department said in a social media post Friday. “That’s 100 km/h over the speed limit, on a winding road, in the dark, with wildlife observed in the area,” the post reads. Cypress Bowl Road leads to Cypress Mountain Resort and Cypress Provincial Park. The route features multiple hairpin turns as it climbs the side of Hollyburn Mountain. Police shared a photo of the vehicle being towed from the scene. They said the driver was issued a $483 violation ticket for excessive speed, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days. Under the Motor Vehicle Act, excessive speeding is defined as exceeding the speed limit by 40 km/h or more. Drivers caught speeding excessively can have their vehicles impounded for seven days on a first offence, and longer if they’ve been caught doing so on any previous occasion within the last two years. Excessive speeding also comes with three penalty points for the driver, according to ICBC. “Driving at this rate of speed drastically reduces the driver’s ability to react to conditions, hazards, and other road users, dramatically increasing the risks for serious harm,” the WVPD said in its post.
