Readers who can’t stomach a fruit pun, look away. For the second year in a row, a truck spilled blueberries on a Mission, B.C., roadway, prompting a (frankly, bananas) pun-filled news release from the local RCMP detachment. “Traffic jam part two,” the headline reads, before reminding readers of the July 9, 2025, incident on Lougheed Highway (“a sticky situation,” according to police). The most recent incident happened July 16 at the Horne Street overpass, where several crates full of blueberries had spilled out onto the roadway, Mission RCMP said. “Fortunately, no one was injured by the spill, the roadway was thoroughly cleaned up, and after a jam-packed shift, the officer ended his day feeling like he had had a rather fruitful afternoon,” the release reads, before thanking the detachment’s Facebook followers, “who provided additional puns that were used in this release.” According to Mounties, the witness who reported the incident saw a motorcycle “go slip-sliding through the mess.” Other vehicles driving through the spilled fruit “turned the matter into a very juicy incident indeed.” The driver of the vehicle “blamed other farm workers for improperly loading the crates,” according to police, who say they reminded him that—as the driver—he was ultimately responsible for securing his cargo. Police issued a ticket for operating with insecure cargo, and a road maintenance crew was called in to finish cleaning up.
