B.C.-born Shea Theodore scores overtime winner in Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Finals

Aldergrove, B.C.-born defenceman Shea Theodore scored the overtime winner in Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final on Saturday night.

Theodore’s game-winner gave the Vegas Golden Knights a 5-4 win and a 2-1 series lead and came in response to a four-goal third-period comeback by the Carolina Hurricanes.

The game was scoreless through the first period, but the Golden Knights stormed ahead with four goals in the second period— highlighted by a natural hat trick from Mitch Marner.

Carolina scored three goals in less than a minute early in the third, before tying the game with an Andrei Svechnikov power-play goal with less than two minutes to go in regulation time.

The game-winner from Theodore came just over five minutes into the second overtime period, at which point he had played 39:09, leading all players in the game in time on ice by a significant margin.

Theodore has been very productive on Vegas’s march to the Cup Finals, posting six goals and 10 assists in 19 games while playing an average of 26:14 a night—nearly half the game.
