A collision in Sidney sent two international students to hospital with serious injuries on Saturday.

Sidney RCMP say the duo was walking in a marked crosswalk at the intersection of Lochside Drive and Weiler Avenue when they were hit by a sedan.

One student was taken to Victoria General Hospital and the other was transported to Saanich Peninsula Hospital.

Mounties say they are investigating whether the crosswalk signals had been activated, but add that it was dark and raining at the time of the collision.

Speed and alcohol were not factors, according to officials.
