Two people have walked away from a helicopter crash near Nanaimo with only minor injuries, according to the Joint Rescue Coordination Centre.

The two-seater Safari home-built helicopter crashed in between Mount Green and Mount De Cosmos about 35 kilometres west of Nanaimo on Tuesday afternoon.

The pair’s injuries were reportedly so minor that an ambulance wasn’t needed to treat them.

The owner and operator of the aircraft is believed to be a man from Duncan who launched his helicopter from the Nanaimo airport.

His destination was a remote lake near the crash site, according to JRCC.

A Cormorant helicopter later brought the pilot and his passenger back to the Nanaimo airport.

JRCC said the responsibility is now on the owner to retrieve the wreckage.

Transport Canada is now investigating the crash.

Information on the flight plan including the height the crash happened from has not been confirmed.
