Devon White to throw out first pitch at Game 6 of World Series, Grenon to sing anthem

TORONTO — Former Blue Jays outfielder Devon White will throw out the first pitch, while singer-songwriter David Grenon will perform the Canadian national anthem before Game 6 of the World Series between Toronto and the Los Angeles Dodgers.

White, a three-time all-star over his career, was a key member of the Blue Jays team that won back-to-back World Series in 1992 and 1993.

Cito Gaston, who managed those Blue Jays teams, and Joe Carter, whose walkoff home run clinched the 1993 title, threw out the first pitches in Game 1 and Game 2.

Grenon, who also performs under the name SoulBear, recently retired after 25 years in the Canadian Armed Forces.

Renditions of “O Canada” by JP Saxe before Game 3 and Rufus Wainwright before Game 5 attracted criticism after the artists altered some of the lyrics of the anthem to insert political messages.

The Blue Jays lead the best-of-seven series 3-2 and can claim their third World Series with a win in Game 6. Game 7, if necessary, is set for Saturday evening at Rogers Centre.
