The hottest and coolest capital cities in Canada this long weekend

The May long weekend is the unofficial start to summer for many Canadians. For some, it’s the first trip to the cottage or an inaugural barbecue. But the weather forecast is bringing a mixed bag for the country. Here’s a look at some of the high and low temperatures for capital and major cities across Canada this long weekend, according to Environment Canada.

Alberta

Temperatures in Edmonton will be on the lower side on Saturday, with a high of 7 C and a 30 per cent chance of rain. Sunday things will warm up with a high of 12 C and a mix of sun and cloud. On Monday, the long weekend weather will pull through with sun in the forecast and a high of 14 C.

Calgary will still be feeling leftovers from winter with temperatures near 1 C on Saturday and wet snow or rain in the forecast. Things will warm up a little on Sunday, with a high of 8 C, though it will continue to be wet with a chance or rain or flurries in the forecast. The payoff will come Monday, with sunny skies and a high of 12 C.

British Columbia

Vancouver will feel like spring with a high of 15 C on Saturday and a chance of showers, while Sunday things will spike to 17 C and the sun will be out. Monday will bring a mix of sun and cloud and a high of 17 C.

The province’s capital Victoria is expected to see a mix of sun and cloud on Saturday with a high of 14 C. Sunday the sun will be out, with a high of 17 C. That high will stick around for Monday, but with a mix of sun and cloud.

Manitoba

Winnipeg is expected to see highs of 12 C on Saturday, with a mix of sun and cloud. Things will cool down on Sunday, with periods of rain and a high of 10 C. Monday will see showers and a high of 8 C.

New Brunswick

It will feel like an early summer in Fredericton on Saturday with sunny skies and a high of 25 C. Sunday it will go up to 26 C, with a mix of sun and cloud. The sun will stick around on Monday, with a high of 23 C.

Moncton will get some sun on Saturday, with a high of 21 C. The temperature climbs to 26 C on Sunday, with a mix of sun and cloud. On Monday, the sun will be out, with a high of 19 C.

Saint John has sun in store all long weekend, with a high of 22 C on Saturday, 25 C on Sunday and 19 C on Monday.

Newfoundland and Labrador

A wet Saturday is in store for St. John’s, with a high of 12 C. Sunday the sun will appear with a high of 14 C. Monday will cool down again with a high of 9 C and cloud conditions.

Nova Scotia

Sun is in store for Halifax, with a high of 22 C on Saturday and clearing skies. The sun will stick around for Sunday and Monday, with highs of 24 C and 20 C, respectively.

Ontario

A chance of rain is in store for Ottawa on Saturday with a high of 23 C. That high will continue into Sunday, with sunny skies. Monday the mercury will spike to 28 C and the sun will continue.

In Toronto, a chance of showers is in the forecast Saturday with a high of 22 C. It goes up to 23 C on Sunday, with a mix of sun and cloud. Monday will feel like summer, with highs of 28 C and sunshine.

Prince Edward Island

Charlottetown has a chance of rain on Saturday with a high of 19 C. A mix of sun and cloud is forecast for Sunday, with highs of 20 C. Monday will dip down to 14 C, but the sun will be out.

Quebec

Quebec City will be mainly sunny on Saturday, with highs of 20 C. A chance of rain is expected for Sunday, with a high of 18 C, while Sunday will bring the sun and a high of 20 C.

Montreal is expecting a lovely long weekend, with a high of 23 C on Saturday and a mix of sun and cloud. Sunday will be 23 C and Monday will be 25 C, with sun expected for both days.

Saskatchewan

Regina is expected to have a cooler long weekend. The warmest day will be Saturday with a high of 13 C and a mix of sun and cloud. On Sunday, rain or snow is in the forecast with a high of 3 C. That trend will continue into Monday, with a high of 2 C and periods of snow.

A chance of flurries or rain is forecast for Saturday in Saskatoon, with a high of 4 C. That same forecast extends into Sunday, with a high of 5 C. Things dry up a bit on Monday, with clouds in the forecast and a high of 9 C.

Northwest Territories

Sun is in the forecast for the whole long weekend in Yellowknife. The high will be 8 C on Saturday, 7 C on Sunday and 13 C on Monday.

Nunavut

Iqaluit will see a mix of sun and cloud on Saturday with a high of -1 C. Sunday will bring cloudy conditions with a high of 2 C and Monday will dip to zero with cloudy conditions.

Yukon

Whitehorse will see a mix of sun and cloud on Saturday, and a high of 17 C. Sunday the sun will come out in full, with a high of 15 C. Monday will be a mix of cloud and sun, and a high of 13 C.
