The biggest event of Toronto’s Caribbean Carnival returns today as the annual Grand Parade winds its way through Exhibition Place and along Lake Shore Boulevard West. Now in its 59th year, the festival is North America’s largest Caribbean Carnival, celebrating Caribbean culture while attracting millions of visitors over the course of the event each year. Road closures Earlier this week, Toronto police announced that the closures will take effect on Saturday, Aug. 1, at 12 a.m. and continue until Sunday, Aug. 2, at 6 a.m. They include: The following Gardiner Expressway ramps will also close at 12 a.m. on Saturday, August 1: Police say residents and visitors should expect traffic delays as a result of the parade and guests are advised to plan their journeys in advance and use public transit. “The service is also expecting increased activity in the evening hours at restaurants and nightclubs,” police said in a news release. “The service will have dedicated resources in the downtown core and waterfront areas in the evenings to maintain public safety and to respond quickly to any incidents.” For a full list of related road closures and restricted access points, click here.
