Victoria’s skyline could be in for a major addition if a developer pursues its plan to build Vancouver Island’s tallest skyscraper.

Townline, the company behind the Hudson Place development in the 700-block of Herald Street, says it is considering increasing the mixed-use high-rise to 30 storeys.

A spokesperson for Townline said the developer has been speaking to the city about the height increase and it has seemed receptive.

The company said it wants to produce a slimmed-down tower and has not yet settled on the number of units it would build.

It hopes to have a development permit submitted to the city by May.

Townline is also holding an information session about the development on April 5, and says it will provide examples of how both an approved 24-storey plan and the 30-storey proposal would fit in with the existing skyline.

The company says if the tower is built at a height above 26 storeys, it will become the tallest building on Vancouver Island.
