Police have issued a teen more than $1,000 in fines after he allegedly drove through a barrier and abandoned his car at a popular Victoria park.

Officers were called to Clover Point, off Dallas Road, at around 11 p.m. Saturday for a report of a car smashing through a metal barrier and going down an embankment.

Two people were seen fleeing from the car after it happened, according to police.

Investigators quickly identified the driver, who eventually returned to the scene.

The 17-year-old boy was fined for driving without a licence, failing to remain at the scene of an accident and driving without due care and attention, totalling more than $1,000.

The other person in the vehicle was also identified and found to be uninjured, police said.

Police put out a humorous tweet about the incident Monday along with a picture of the vehicle precariously parked on the slope, using the hashtag #notaparkingspot.
