Thunder, flurries and hail are possible over much of Vancouver Island today and Friday, according to Environment Canada.

The agency issued special weather statements for most of Vancouver Island including the north, central, west and east part of the island as well as the Southern Gulf Islands.

A statement was not issued for Greater Victoria.

The statement said a strong Pacific cold front would bring rain to most areas on B.C.'s South Coast Thursday morning, but as the cold front swept the region, rain will become mixed with snow over higher-elevation communities and inland regions.

A few centimetres of snow could accumulate in those areas, Environment Canada said.

Thunderstorms producing hail are also possible on the island and again on Friday.
