Battlefords RCMP respond to armed suspect near North Battleford School

Battlefords RCMP responded to a report of a suspicious person near North Battleford Comprehensive High School on Tuesday. The call, received around 3:30 p.m., indicated the individual may have been armed with a firearm.

A Battlefords RCMP school liaison officer was already at the school when the report came in. The school initially went into lockdown as a precaution. The lockdown has since been lifted, and police helped ensure the safe release of students. No injuries were reported.

The suspect, described as a male was wearing a white hoodie and black pants and possibly carrying a firearm, was last seen near 17th Avenue and 103rd Street.

RCMP officers continued to patrol the area, but a male matching the description was taken into custody around 4:15 p.m. The public will be notified if there is any ongoing risk.
