Saskatoon firefighters responded to two separate structure fires on Avenue N South Thursday morning. The city’s fire department says crews were called to a boarded-up home in the 220 block of Avenue N South shortly before 11:40 a.m. They arrived to find smoke and flames coming from the rear of the house, and worked to knock down the fire. A search of the building confirmed nobody was inside. Minutes later crews responding to a nearby incident were made aware of a second structure fire involving a detached garage in the 200 block of Avenue N South. A responding fire truck found smoke coming from the garage. Crews attacked the fire from outside before entering the garage once the flames were knocked down. The fire department says no one was inside at the time of the blaze. As of noon Thursday, both fires had been extinguished, and fire investigators were on scene to determine the causes, origins and damage estimates. The fire department says there were no injuries to report in either fire.
