Youth accused in quadruple homicide on Sask. First Nation pleads guilty to manslaughter

A 15-year-old suspect in the Carry the Kettle quadruple homicide has pleaded guilty to manslaughter. Jacob Carr reports.

One of the four accused in last year’s quadruple murder on Carry the Kettle Nakoda Nation in Saskatchewan has pleaded guilty to manslaughter.

The now 16-year-old accused, whose identity is protected by the Youth Criminal Justice Act, pleaded guilty to four counts of manslaughter in Regina Provincial Court on Wednesday.

The accused, who was 15 at the time, was among the first of four people charged in connection with the killing. He was arrested on Feb. 18, 2025, along with 18-year-old Darrius Racette. Both were charged with four counts of first-degree murder.

A third suspect arrested on Dec. 10, 2025, was also charged with four counts of first-degree murder. Additionally, the 17-year-old faced one count of attempted murder, stemming from an altercation between the accused and a fifth person at the home where the killings occurred.

The accused also made an appearance in provincial court on Wednesday. His next appearance in set for March 27.

On Feb. 4, 2025, File Hills First Nations Police discovered the bodies of Tracey Hotomani, Sheldon Quewezance, Shauna Fay and Terry Jack at a home on Carry the Kettle Nakoda Nation.

On Feb. 5, 2026, a fourth person was charged in connection to the homicides. Lauren Elvis Hotomani was charged with one count of accessory after the fact to murder.

Many friends and family of the victims were on hand to watch the proceedings. Some shook their heads as the statement of facts was read by the Crown.

Many others became visibly emotional, so much so that Judge James Korpan decided to move from Provincial Court Room 5 to Court Room 7, saying, “anyone who wants to view these proceedings should be able to.”

Korpan accepted the guilty plea of the accused and the next court appearance for the 16-year-old is set for April 24.
