New Regina school aims to support and grow Fransaskois community

The Government of Saskatchewan and CÉF officially opened école du Parc, a new K–6 Francophone school in north Regina.

The Government of Saskatchewan along with the Conseil des écoles fransaskoises (CÉF), officially unveiled the grand opening of école du Parc, the newest Francophone Kindergarten to Grade 6 school on Friday in north Regina.

The $26.9 million investment — including $22.2 million from the Government of Saskatchewan and $4.7 million from the Government of Canada — highlights the province’s dedication to delivering high-quality education for Francophone students.

“This new school is a testament to our commitment to supporting Francophone education in Saskatchewan,” Education Minister Everett Hindley said in a press release. “It demonstrates the province’s dedication to ensuring Francophone students have access to a safe and welcoming environment that allows them to learn and grow in French.”

École du Parc will hold 325 students, and feature a 51-space child care centre, along with a shared Francophone community space.

“Today marks an exciting milestone for education in our province,” SaskBuilds and Procurement Minister Sean Wilson said. “The opening of this new CÉF elementary school reflects our shared commitment to creating welcoming, modern learning spaces for students. We are proud to support a project that provides Fransaskois students with an updated facility that will help them learn and grow for years to come.”

Conseil scolaire fransaskois (CSF) president Geneviéve Binette said the opening marks a major milestone for Fransaskois education as it’s located in the heart of a Fransaskois community, designed to be both accessible and closely connected to local families.

“It embodies the vitality, pride and success of the Fransaskois community, as the school is not only a place of learning - it is the beating heart of the community and a key pillar of its long-term sustainability,” she said.

Federal officials say the project also supports Francophone communities across the country.

“A quality educational environment is essential for the development of Francophone minority communities,” said Marc Miller, federal minister of Canadian identity and culture and minister responsible for official languages.

“We are proud to support the construction of this new… infrastructure in Regina… where [students] can grow, learn and thrive in French."

The new school replaces a temporary facility that opened in 2018 to address rising enrolment. Construction began in June 2023 and wrapped up in December 2024.

Plans for additional Francophone schools in Saskatoon and Prince Albert are currently in development.
