A man in Regina is facing several gun-related charges after being caught transporting a loaded shotgun in a taxi. At around 8 a.m. on Aug. 19, police witnessed a man wanted on outstanding warrants inside a taxicab in the area of Quebec Street and 13th Avenue. Officers pulled the cab over near the 1700 block of St. John Street. When the driver stopped, the suspect ran from the cab into a nearby home. More officers arrived and contained the home. As police approached, several people left the home, including the wanted man, who was arrested. Another man and male youth were also arrested on what police called unrelated matters. A search of the cab revealed a duffle bag in the trunk, which contained a loaded semi-automatic shotgun. A 29-year-old man faces four counts of possessing a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order, unauthorized possession of a prohibited device or ammunition in a motor vehicle, carrying a concealed weapon, possessing a firearm knowing it is unauthorized, possessing a loaded prohibited/restricted firearm and failing to comply with a probation order. The accused made his first appearance in Regina Provincial Court on Aug. 19. The 1700 block of St. John Street was closed off Wednesday morning during the incident.
