Flew the coop: Estevan RCMP searching for stolen pelican statue

Estevan RCMP are asking the community for help finding a local landmark missing from Woodlawn Regional Park.

The signature pelican statue that sits on top of the sign at Woodlawn Regional Park’s Boundary Dam near Estevan has been stolen.

Estevan RCMP received a report of a theft near Estevan on Feb. 10 and determined the pelican statue was stolen, according to Saskatchewan RCMP on Tuesday.

Officers have been searching for the statue since it was reported missing and are now asking the public for any information on its whereabouts.

“A lot of local residents and visitors to the park are disappointed that this well-known community landmark has flown the coop,” said Cpl. Srdjan Bunjevac from the Estevan RCMP.

Bunjevac said the statue has been perched on the sign for years and was crafted by a local shop in Estevan.

“It has a lot of local significance and we’re hoping the community will flock together and report any information that may help us find it,” he said.
