Charcuterie in a bag: Saskatchewan meat and cheese trail-mix gaining popularity

Stoughton Meat Market crafted a cheese and meat trail mix that has gained huge popularity and is selling very quickly. Mick Favel has more.

Traction on social media has propelled the sales of a longtime staple item at a Saskatchewan family-owned grocery store.

For a decade, Stoughton Meat Market & Family Foods has been offering a unique meat and cheese trail-mix.

In late 2025, the market posted about its signature trail-mix and received the social media equivalent of a standing ovation.

Rory Clarke is one of the owners of the market. He prepares the meat and told CTV News that more time is being dedicated to keeping up with the growing demand.

“People that are normally working up front, now we are pulling them back here,” he explained.

The market’s supply of charcuterie in a bag has been sold out many times since, with eagle-eyed customers waiting for the next batch.

“They keep coming back. A lot of people come in and grab it for their family members. They said it is well worth the trip,” said Erin Clark, another owner of Stoughton Meat Market & Family Foods.

Clarke has used a smoker inside the market for a decade and has perfected his technique. He said each package of trail-mix has its own unique taste.

“It is never the same twice when it follows that formula. It’s an adventure in every bag,” he said.

The market is not increasing the smoking process to make larger quantities of the trail-mix.

They are pleased to be offering something that cannot be found anywhere else.

“We are a little independent. There’s not that many of us around anymore,” Clarke said.

“We kind of pick up that niche market where we do what the big guys can’t do. With that homemade touch, the small town charm,” he added.

Stoughton Meat Market & Family Foods is taking orders over the phone for those in the area interested in picking some up.
