The remediation of the Victoria courthouse lawn came to a halt on Friday due to an infestation of rats.

The province said it’s bringing in pest control officers next week and no work will take place until the rats have been dealt with.

The former tent city site will remain completely fenced off and staffed by security 24 hours a day while restoration work continues.

Remediation is expected to cost around $350,000 and may include a children’s playground.
