Central Saanich police are searching for a Good Samaritan who stepped in following a disturbing attack that left a dog with serious injuries to its leg and face.

The dog was found injured Tuesday in the 7100-block of West Saanich Road at around 9:30 p.m., according to police.

The four-year-old German shepherd-Burmese mountain cross suffered compound fractures to its leg and face.

A person driving through the area stopped to help the dog and brought it to a home in Brentwood Bay. The owner then rushed the animal to a veterinary hospital.

Police said a 32-year-old Central Saanich man walking the dog at the time has been arrested in connection with the animal's injuries, and they're looking to speak with the Good Samaritan who stopped to provide help.

Anyone who knows the identity of the driver or has further information about the incident is asked to call 250-652-4441 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
