Investigators are looking for witness videos or photos from the scene of an intentionally set fire in a Saanich Home Depot over the weekend.

Fire crews and police were called to the Home Depot on Shelbourne Street at around 11:30 a.m. Saturday for a report of a fire near the paint department.

Employees evacuated the building after noticing the fire and no one was injured.

“Our associates did an awesome job evacuating the customers, getting them out as quickly as possible,” said store manager Deanne Pickering.

Other stores in the University Heights Shopping Centre had to be closed as crews battled the blaze.

Home Depot suffered “extensive” water and fire damage but the estimated cost of the damage remains unknown, police said.

There is no suspect description but investigators say they’ve determined the fire was set on purpose.

Police are working with the business to obtain video surveillance which may be released to the public.

Anyone who was in the Home Depot at the time and took any videos or photos is asked to call Saanich Police at 250-475-4356.
