Nanaimo RCMP say a violent home invasion on Sunday is not connected to an apparent targeted shooting that left one man dead the day before.

Three men, ranging in age from 23 to 47, were assaulted by multiple suspects in the 600-block of Howard Avenue just after 7 a.m.

The victims were treated for various injuries by paramedics and then transported to hospital.

According to RCMP, one victim was hit several times with a bat, including on the head.

“Investigators believe this incident is a result of an ongoing feud between two groups and was a targeted attack. It is also in no way related to the shooting incident from Saturday January 13th," said Const. Gary O'Brien of the Nanaimo RCMP.

Mounties announced Monday they arrested a 19-year-old man in a south Nanaimo home Sunday night on charges of break and enter, assault with a weapon and disguise with intent in connection with the home invasion.

He has since been released from custody on a promise to appear in court March 13 in Nanaimo.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Nanaimo RCMP at 250-754-2345 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
